Robert Bacon: Ready for the Row

By Phil Sweetland
Country Music and Radio Contributor

When Robert Bacon was being brought up in the small farming town of Butler, Missouri, Country music was always a part of his life. But early on, he had other dreams. Bacon studied Business Management, Marketing, and Accounting at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. “It was good, I liked it and learned a lot about business that is a big help in the music business”, said Bacon, whose field of study prior to his musical career sounds a great deal like that of the young Garth Brooks in Oklahoma. Like Garth but unlike so many artists, Roberts education and experience gave him a natural feel for the business side of show business long before he ever hit Nashville. During Bacons school days, he loved the music of Alan Jackson, George Strait, Garth, and others. But it was a 1993 show by Rhett Akins, the Georgia singer and songwriter whose song, “That Ain’t My Truck” and “Don’t Get Me Started” became Top 5 Billboard singles that changed Robert’s life. “When I saw Rhett back in 1993, that was when I knew what I wanted to do”, Bacon said. He started a band and began playing local clubs, and came to Nashville for the first time in 2000. I liked Nashville a lot, I was hooked, he said. This time around (in 2006), he teamed up with Wes Hightower and Jeff Teague as producers. Together Bacon and Hightower found the song “Drinkin Thinkin”, a hooky hit penned by Shapiro, Tony Martin, and Rick Bowles. The song debuted on CDX late in 2005, and was on the Texas and European music charts. “I love the studio, I always have, and am excited to be back in the studio with Jeff and Wes”. Robert says. Robert has relocated to Nashville permanently and is working on songs for his new CD.
